"When you trust the promises of our God, you can take the risk, and choose to embrace a significant adventure to which God is calling you.”

As parishioners, we are all challenged to be involved in some ministry at St. Sebastian. Stewardship is the sharing of our time, our treasure and our talents. God's call and our response are essential parts of stewardship. The response for some is quite simple; for others, much more is involved. Please review the Ministry Catalog to read about the many ways you are needed.

Ministries Booklet

New Volunteer Opportunities

Ministry:  Sanctuary Society

Description of Ministry:  Sanctuary Society is a women only organization open to parishioners.  We are in charge of everything for the altar, such as the hosts for all masses, candles and flowers.  We organize two main events for the parish to help fund that need by hosting the annual Women’s Christmas Tea and International Festival.  The society also awards a scholarship to a graduating 8th grader who’s continuing their high school education at a Catholic school.

Description of volunteer opportunities: Volunteers are always needed for both the Tea and the Festival, signups come out a few weeks before the event.  Volunteers help with either setting up, cleanup, taking on the responsibility of a booth or donating financially to help assist costs for the events.

Skills needed:  None, all we need is your time and willingness to help.

Dates:  The Christmas Tea is on December 8th and the International Festival is on February 5th.

Contact info:  Please contact the current President, Ana Borges, at (330) 752-3089 or via email at apbsaab@gmail.com.

Ministry: St. Vincent de Paul Society

Description of ministry:  The Society serves needy persons who reside within the Parish’s boundaries and is supported by parishioner donations and poor box offerings. The Society’s mission is to address emergency or immediate short-term needs. The type and level of assistance depends upon the circumstances. Types of assistance provided include, but are not limited to, a rent payment, a utility payment, a used appliance (such as a refrigerator, a stove, washers and dryers) and food in the form of gift cards redeemable at a local grocery store chain.

Description of volunteer opportunity: Members of the Society contact needy persons within the boundaries of St. Sebastian Parish to provide essentials, utility payments, rent, appliances, referrals to a furniture bank and other assistance. New members are temporarily paired with a current member for training purposes and have the opportunity to continue to work as a pair with another member if they so desire. As members frequently interact with needy persons in the community, it is recommended that members be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Dates & Times: Members of the Society meet weekly in Byrider Hall for approximately 30-45 minutes on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m., at which time reports on client contacts and assistance are provided, new client assignments are distributed and other resources available to clients, as identified, are discussed. While individual members of the Society are not expected to attend each and every meeting, they are asked to prioritize attendance as much as possible, consistent with family and work obligations.

Contact information: Persons interested in becoming members of the Society and personally serving the needy within the Parish’s boundaries should contact the Rectory, which will notify the Society’s president of that person’s interest.
