Project Spruce Up!

Alumni Lead 90th Anniversary Hallway Improvement Effort

As the parish wrapped up its 90th anniversary celebrations in 2018, the Foundation began working with a group of alumni from the classes of 1969-1978 on a project honoring the upcoming 90th anniversary of St. Sebastian Parish School, which was established in 1929, one year after the parish.

Project Spruce Up aims to improve the condition and appearance of the hallways that our alumni once roamed. Currently, the school’s hallway floors, walls and stairwells are in need of repairs and upgrades to maintain a clean, safe and attractive environment. The hallways and stairwells are an important point of first impression of the condition and care of the school.

As one of the few areas of the school building that are used by every student, every teacher, every staff person, and every visitor, the hallways and stairwells have experienced significant wear and tear and are in need of a major “spruce up.”

Phase One

The first phase of the Project Spruce Up work will focus on installing a polymer epoxy coating on all 7,150 square feet of the flooring in the school, for an estimated cost of $50,000.

Phase Two

The second phase of the project work will focus on repairs/upgrades for both the stairwells and the upper, painted portions of the walls, for an estimated cost of $50,000-$100,000. Any funds raised in excess will be used for the stripping and cleaning of the brick walls in the halls and stairwells.
