Interested in exploring the Catholic faith? OCIA is the process that will help you on that journey. What does it involve? The process provides the opportunity for you to ask questions, become acquainted with the practices and traditions of the Catholic Church and often leads to being initiated into the Catholic Church. There is no pressure to make a commitment. The decision of the individual is always respected.

Here's a quick step by step guide to help you:

The final step of OCIA is the full initiation into the Catholic faith. These sacraments of initiation are typically received at the Easter Vigil.

We're here to help you on your journey! Our Parish Catechical Leader, Keith Johnson, is happy to explain the process more in depth and answer any questions.  If you or someone you know is interested, have them contact Keith either by calling 330-836-2233 x134 or by email at JohnsonK@stsebastian.org.  You are welcome to attend Mass*, speak to our priests and experience our parish community.

*If attending Mass, we ask that you refrain from taking the Eucharist until you've been received fully into the faith, however you are welcome to come up with your arms crossed for a blessing.

Once you're ready to take the next step, we encourage you to join OCIA.  This process will help you become acquainted with the Catholic faith and understand the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  You will receive a sponsor, someone who is already a fully initiated Catholic, who will help you on this journey.

For more helpful infomation, we encourage you to read THIS ARTICLE from Ascension Press where it goes a bit more in depth to the different steps on becoming Catholic.
