Father's Bulletin Letter 10.9.22

Oct 06, 2022

Greetings,

At first light on Monday, workers were already on our church building preparing it for its brand-new roof. Services were able to continue and the sound was not too bad. By 1:00pm the western side of the building was almost entirely stripped of clay tile and the felt underlining. It was difficult to take pictures of progress on this side of the building because we have so many trees, but the drone club of the school came to the rescue. I ran into Mr. Rohr and a couple of our pilots flying the drone high above the church, taking pictures of the progress.

Although large machinery may be in our parking lot, the building should be completely open and accessible on the weekends. This week a lot of work is scheduled on the east side of the building (which is the side with the parking lot.) Only one door should be blocked off during the week and at all times there will be at least one handicap accessible door available.

This is a relatively new type of roof and St. Sebastian Parish is somewhat in the spotlight particularly with pastors with failing clay tile roofs who do not want to simply put an asphalt shingle roof on. A sample of the roof is in the narthex of the church.

IN OTHER NEWS:

THANK YOU!: You may have noticed that our grounds are beginning to be shut down for the winter. The Cutting Garden has been drastically cut back and the Grounds Crew has begun taking in the flower pots from around the buildings and such. It was a beautiful season both outside of the church and within with the arranging of flowers from our own grounds in our sanctuary and on all of the side shrines. It was a great season. Thank you for all that you do!

TREES: Thanks to a donation by the Bridge Flights, the Grounds Crew planted three new trees on our property. A maple was planted on the north east corner of our property and it should turn a fiery red in the autumn. Two ornamental trees were planted along the east side of the church next to the entrances. Thank you so much.

PRIESTS AWAY: Just a reminder that your priests were away for most of last week. If you were trying to be in touch, please consider trying again this week. Thank you to Fr. Marty Miller for having Mass for us on Thursday and Mr. Jeffrey Lindholm for having Communion Services for us on Wednesday and Friday.

THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS: The Assistant Coordinator of the Diocesan Vocation Office Fr. Eric Garris, will be the next speaker at TOR on October 17 at 7pm at El Rancho Restaurant.

God bless,

Fr. Valencheck
