Father's Bulletin Letter 10.30.22

Oct 27, 2022

Greetings,

This weekend we welcome to our pulpit the Reverend Eric Garris, the new Director of Priestly Vocations for the Diocese of Cleveland. On Priesthood Sunday we typically have a seminarian come speak to us, but this year, Fr. Garris is giving the homily at all of the Masses. Welcome Fr. Garris! Fr. Garris was ordained to the priesthood in 2017 and first served at St. Raphael Parish east of Cleveland and then shot over to another parish named after an archangel, St. Gabriel, on the west side of Cleveland. He was assigned to the vocations office earlier this year. If you feel a tug at your heart to look into a priestly vocation, you can contact Fr. Garris at (440) 943-7655 or at egarris@dioceseofcleveland.org.

IN OTHER NEWS:

POSTERS & PRAYER CARDS: In the bulletin this weekend you will find this year’s poster showing all of the seminarians studying at our college seminary of St. Borromeo, and our major seminary, St. Mary. Consider using this poster as a tool over the next few months to keep our seminarians in your prayers and to pray for vocations so that we will always have priests for our altars. If holding onto the poster seems a bit much, there are also prayer cards at the entrances of the church. Please take one to assist you in your prayers or discernment.

HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION: This Tuesday we get to observe ALL SAINTS DAY as a holy day of obligation. Here is the Mass schedule:

Monday, Oct. 31

7pm    Vigil

Tuesday, Nov. 1

9am

5pm Extraordinary Form

7pm

NEW CANDLES: There will be something new in the church for All Saints Day. We have many chapels dedicated to the saints and this year we will have a candle burning at each of the altars. The candle holders being used were designed, made and donated by parishioner Tony Gerak. The stands are designed to compliment the St. Sebastian candlesticks that already exist in the church. He has also made more for us so that all of them will match. Thank you, Tony!

When St. Sebastian Parish was designed, it was not uncommon for the architect to design candlesticks specifically for that building. That was the case for St. Sebastian and why we could never find candlesticks to match them. In fact, Mr. Bob Krause Sr., the son of the man who designed our church (and all of our other buildings) once talked about how he helped work on the design, making the candle holders that now are in the narthex of the church.

POOR SOULS: It is the month of poor souls. Please keep them in your prayers.

God Bless,

Fr. Valencheck
