GLORIA...MUSIC OF THE SEASON

On Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 4:00 p.m., Musical Arts of St. Sebastian Parish will present the combined choirs of St. Mary, Hudson and St. Sebastian, Akron, with a concert entitled Gloria… Music for the Season, a program celebrating the wonderful choral literature of the Advent and Christmas Seasons.

The Saint Mary Choir blends the talents of professional vocalists with the enthusiasm of parishioners who simply love to sing.  Accompanied by Elizabeth Carey (MA Music Ed., Northern Illinois), a professional pianist, accompanist and a well-known piano teacher throughout the Hudson area, and under the direction of Mark Ludwig (MM, Kent State University), Director of Music and Organist, the choir provides music weekly for the 9:30 AM Mass, two Taizé services each year, and all major liturgical feasts. During the past 18 years, the Saint Mary Choir has developed a wide variety of repertoire, from traditional Latin motets to early American choral music.

Under the direction of David Uschold, (MM, Cleveland Institute of Music), Director of Music and Organist at St. Sebastian Parish, the St. Sebastian Parish Choir has had a long tradition of excellence in choral music, providing music weekly for Sunday liturgies as well as several special liturgies and concerts throughout the church year.  In addition to sharing their musical talents at the parish, the St. Sebastian Parish Choir has also toured abroad both in Italy and Ireland, and during their tour to Italy in 2011 the choir was allowed the opportunity to sing for Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican.  Furthermore, the St. Sebastian Parish Choir has joined in forces with the Singers Companye of Akron to present Handle’s Messiah and were finalists in the WCLV Church Choir Competition.

The program entitled, Gloria…Music of the Season, will feature Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi as well as Advent and Christmas choral works by Harold Darke, William Kirkpatrick, Paul Manz and Joseph Schnabel.  Joining the combined choirs will be guest vocal soloists Susan Fletcher, soprano, Katie Gladman, Soprano, Kimberly Lauritsen, mezzo-soprano, Ryan Furmick, tenor and an orchestra comprised of some of the best musicians in the Cleveland/Akron area.  The concert is free and open to the public.  Come and be moved by the music of the season!
