Father's Bulletin Letter - 11.23.2025

Nov 20, 2025

Greetings!

Happy feast of CHRIST THE KING! This celebration marks the end of our liturgical calendar and as such pays tribute to Christ as King of the Universe - of all! Next week will begin the new liturgical cycle, starting the drama of salvation history with the Advent waiting for the Messiah to come.

IN OTHER NEWS:

ADVENT CANDLES: For those of you would like them, we have Advent Wreath Candles available for sale in the narthex of the church near the northeast door. Advent wreaths are a wonderful way to aid prayer as we pass through this solemn season. They are generally lit when the household gathers for dinner and many prayers may be found online.

WELCOME SEMINARIANS!: This weekend we welcome the twelve men who are in the Propaedeutic Immersion Year (PY) at our seminary. On the weekends they visit various parishes, and we are fortunate enough to have them here on Christ the King weekend! Welcome!

This PY is part of a new, worldwide way of forming our future clergy. According to the seminary website, “It is the church’s response to living in a culture that is becoming increasingly antagonistic to living the faith. God still speaks quite profoundly in His silent love language, but it is growing evermore difficult to hear and receive His message in an age of constant distraction and noise. The PY, therefore, presents an opportunity to step out of the prevailing culture for a time so that seminarians can wisely critique the culture and learn to listen deeply to
the voice of God. Then they can reengage with the culture, embracing what is good in it and letting go of what is detrimental, as they undertake the rest of their seminary formation.”

Most of the men in the PY are new or relatively new to the seminary so you may not recognize them. But you should be familiar with two of them: Mr. Gabriel Kasper of our parish and Mr. John Paul Antalek of St. Mary Parish who has often been in our sanctuary over the years.

If everything works out, all of these seminarians will be serving at the 9am Mass this weekend and I am hoping at least a couple of them might be a part of the 11am Mass. Afterwords, Marcy Smith will provide a brunch for them in the rectory and then we will send them back up to the seminary. Please keep them and all of our seminarians and those of our parish who are contemplating a priestly or religious vocation in your prayers.

SCAFFOLDING: You may have been surprised to see scaffolding in the east side of the interior of the church last weekend. Fear not! There is not a leak in the roof! We have been informed that there may have been moisture trapped in the plaster and the hot sun hitting it over the summer cause the paint to peel in a few places. We are getting that tidied up. Thank you to everyone who supports the parish so that we can keep on top of such things!

THANKSGIVING THIS WEEK: The Mass on Thanksgiving will be at 9am. I hope that you can join me! Parish offices will be closed beginning at Noon on Wednesday and will open again on Saturday at 8:30am for regular hours.

God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
