Father's Bulletin Letter - 10.12.2025

Oct 10, 2025

Greetings,

Every October, Catholics in the United States observe Respect Life Month. As a young kid I remember a day in school, it was a bizarrely windy day and Mr. Lanning came over the loudspeaker to ask the older kids to walk with and protect the younger kids (who were in danger of blowing away perhaps?) I remember my Mom being so touched that that the kids were helping the younger (and lighter!) and more vulnerable would have someone with them who could protect them if they could not.

That is not unlike what we are asked to do as Catholics: to walk with, protect and be the voice for those who are most vulnerable, most likely to be done away with, forgotten or abused from conception until natural death. This month be the one that is the anchor for souls in danger of being lost. At a minimum pray for greater respect of human life that we might build up our culture into that positive, life nurturing life that the strong, the powerful and the established are allowed to enjoy.

IN OTHER NEWS:

FALL BREAK: You may have noticed at the 9am Mass last weekend that one of our seminarians, Mr. Gabe Kasper was serving in our sanctuary. The seminaries are going on Fall Break so you may spy them around the parish over the next couple of Days. If you see Messrs. Gabe Kasper, John Scantling or Christopher Villarreal, make sure that you say hi and keep them in your prayers.

ORGAN CONCERT: There will be an Organ Concert in the Church next weekend, October 19 at 4:00pm. The concert is free and open to the public. This is an excellent opportunity to bring your family to learn how to attend a formal concert. Is also a great opportunity to hear our wonderful organ put through its paces!

W. A. Y. N. A. K.? Why Are You Not A Knight? Our Knights of Columbus Council is beginning a membership drive for men of the parish to join this organization that does so much for St. Sebastian and the community. When there is a need, we know that we can call upon the Knights of Columbus and they will be there to help either with the seat of their brow or raising funds. Prayerfully discern if you are not being called to the Knights of Columbus.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL: This organization takes care of the poorest of the poor and those in unexpected situations within our parish boundaries. They don’t just hand out money but contact individuals to make sure that they are receiving the actual help that they need. Do you ever feel guilty about not helping that person at the end of the highway ramp? Here is your chance to be involved and know that resources are going to people who live here and are truly in need. Please contact the rectory office for more information.

God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
