Father's Bulletin Letter 8.10

Aug 06, 2025

Greetings!

This coming Friday, August 15, is a holy day of obligation, a day on which we are afforded the opportunity to worship and give thanks to God for the gift of the Blessed Virgin Mary as we celebrate her Assumption into Heaven. With this title, all of humanity has her as a patron saint, for she is the first to follow her Son and thus, is the model for us to follow.

Schedule for the Feast of the Assumption:

  • Thursday, August 14
    • Mass 7pm
  • Friday, August 15
    • Mass 9am
    • Confessions 4pm
    • Mass 7pm

IN OTHER NEWS:

VACATION: This is just a heads up that I will be leaving on my annual vacation to visit my sister in New York, beginning after the 8am Mass on Monday. I will be returning at the end of the week.

UPCOMING EVENTS OF WHICH YOU MIGHT WANT TO BE AWARE:

AUG. 14 NEW FAMILY PICNIC: This is for the families who are new to our school. It is an opportunity to get to know the other families starting off new at our parish school.

AUG. 17 OPEN HOUSE: Our school Open House will begin at 10am and give you a chance to see all of the improvements that have taken place over the summer and give our students an opportunity to see their new classroom assignments. Thanks to this generous community, much work has been done in the Art, Band, and Music Rooms, as well as new flooring in the main hallway of the school. Of course, there was also the typical painting and repairing that takes place every summer. What you won’t be able to see is the new roof on the buildings!

AUG. 18 BISHOP MALESIC AT TOR: Our Ordinary, Bishop Malesic, will be speaking at Theology on the Rocks next Monday. Doors open at 7pm and he begins to speak at 7:30pm. His topic will be, “A Flourishing Apostolic Church.” Tickets are $15 and there are hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Pre-registration is necessary! Check the church website (Theology on the Rocks Akron Facebook) or call Keith Johnson 330-836-2233 ext.134 or email your registration to him at johnsonk@stsebastian.org. Payment is at the door.

THANK YOU: A huge thank you to all of the organizers of our Parish Festival, particularly the Borges family, who were the inspiration for beginning this annual event leading up to our 100th anniversary. Thank you to all the volunteers and attendees that made our Parish Festival such a rousing success! The Ladies’ Night out was such a success that plans are being made to replicate it next year. The Pig Roast and Bourbon tasting satisfied once again. And the Family Day was a step up with local foods and moving the entire event to the courtyard. That’s definitely a keeper. A good sign that these events were successful was that people hung around long after the official events were over! See you again next year.

God bless,

Fr. Valencheck
