St. Sebastian Parish School Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Nov 07, 2019

St. Sebastian Parish School recently celebrated its 90th Anniversary with a procession and statue dedication. Following the all-school Mass on November 1st, the students, led by Pastor John Valencheck, Deacon Terry Peacock and the school band, paraded down Mull Avenue from the church and into the parish’s Zwisler Hall. Eighth-grade students Jasper Liggins and Tori DeKatch, who carried the soon to be dedicated statue in the parade, placed it on the stage for all the students and families to see. During the dedication, Fr. Valencheck offered reflection and several students recited prayers they had composed for the dedication.

When the dedication was complete, the school’s principal, Mr. Anthony Rohr, placed the new statue of the parish’s patron saint, St. Sebastian, in an alcove on the first floor of the school.  The niche had just been beautifully repainted by the school’s art teacher, Elizabeth Aronhalt, in preparation for receiving the statue. The students returned to their classrooms where they enjoyed a special treat in honor of the school’s anniversary.
