Father's Bulletin Letter 6.8.2025

Jun 06, 2025

Greetings,

Happy Birthday to the Church! Pentecost is considered the birthday of the Church, because it is the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and gave them the courage and wisdom they needed to empower them to go out and share the Good News of Jesus Christ. As we bring this parish’s 97th celebration of Easter to a close, I want to thank everyone for making all of our celebrations so wonderful. It takes the whole community, from clergy and seminarians, to ministers, congregants, and babies singing their hearts out during the homily. What a blessing you all are!

IN OTHER NEWS:

MISSIONARY: This weekend we welcome the Rev. Paul Gins, O.S.M., (Order of Friar Servants of Mary) to be our missionary speaker. Father Gins will be giving the homily at all Masses this weekend and asking us to support their Missions in Kwazuku, South Africa. He has spoken throughout the Youngstown and Cleveland Dioceses in the past and was at St Vincent Parish in 2023. His family lived in Columbus and he grew up at Christ the King Parish there. Consider giving to their Mission and if you desired to help but did not bring anything with you, you may bring it to the rectory office during business hours or drop it off next week in the collection basket in a clearly marked envelope. And keep Fr. Gins and his order and their mission in your prayers.

THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS: I will be speaking at Theology on the Rocks on Monday, June 16. Check elsewhere in the bulletin or on the Facebook Page for more details. We will be discussing AI and the human person and what to be afraid of and what we should not fear.

NEWS FROM THE DIOCESAN MEMORANDUM:

GRANDPARENTS DAY: July 27 is World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. In 2021, Pope Francis established the celebration of the World Day for Grandparents and Elderly on the fourth Sunday of July, near the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus (July 26).

BORROMEO SEMINARY REUNION: I am amazed at how many men attended seminary and did not go on to be priests. They left to pursue other endeavors, but still had an intense time in their life of growing in their faith and then most went on to raise families and pass that faith on to others. Going to the seminary is a time of discernment, both for the man looking to see if the priesthood is for him and for the Church to discern if he is truly called. One is not “locked in” once he enters the seminary.

If you are interested in looking into the possibility of attending the seminary, see one of the parish priests or call Fr. Eric Garris at 440-943-7660 or at egarris@dioceseofcleveland.org.

Those who attended either Borromeo High School, College or Seminary in the past and their spouses are invited to an alumni reunion on Sunday, June 8 at 4pm with prayer, community and dinner. There is no cost, but an R.S.V.P. is required. Call Terry Zakreysek at 440-943-7651.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES: The diocese of Cleveland has an Employment Opportunities website. Check out dioceseofcleveland.org/jobs.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES: If you have not given to Catholic Charities this year, it is not too late! Envelopes are available in the lobbies of the church. You may give online, mail it in, drop in the collection basket or bring it to the rectory office.

Thanks!

God bless,

Fr. Valencheck
