Father's Bulletin Letter - 6.22.2025
Jun 19, 2025
Greetings,
This weekend is the Feast of Corpus Christi, the celebration of the gift of the Eucharist. Jesus gave us the Eucharist so that He could be with us “until the end of the age.” Today we celebrate the true presence of Christ, in that the bread and wine does not symbolize His presence among us, but that it truly becomes His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. He remains even physically among us just as He was two thousand years ago to His disciples.
There will be a Corpus Christ Procession following the 9am Mass this Sunday. If you are attending another Mass, you are invited to come to the Church at about 9:50am and join in the procession in which we carry the Blessed Sacrament in honor and ask for His blessing and protection upon us, our church and our whole parish, thanking and praising Him for this great gift. Thank you to the School Advisory Committee (SAC) for volunteering to serve donuts following the procession in the courtyard.
IN OTHER NEWS:
BRICK STREET JAZZ AND WINE FESTIVAL: This is the week! Get your tickets now! This coming Thursday, June 26, is the BSJ&W Festival. Back by popular demand, this year’s featured orchestra is the Whirly Birds. Music, wine and food tastings in a great setting. The event will be held in the courtyard, but in the unlikely event that it rains, it will be in Zwisler Hall. See the bulletin or our website for more details and how to get your tickets. The BSJ&W Festival is certainly open to the public.
SUPPORT FOR SEMINARIANS: The local Serra Council will be at next week’s weekend Masses. The Serras foster and promote priestly and religious vocations. They will be here for two reasons: Firstly, they’re inviting you to assist them in building a fund to help pay down the debt that many men and women who are looking into vocation are saddled with. They provide grants so that, if what is keeping a particular person from entering a vocational program is great debt, they can help assist that person to make the obligation more manageable.
Secondly, they are looking for persons to join in their effort to encourage local vocations. They pray and develop programs to foster a culture of vocations. Perhaps if there are enough persons interested, a council might be formed at this parish.
For more information, see a Serran at the back of the church after Mass.
GOING ON AROUND ST. SEBASTIAN SQUARE: Last weekend you may have noticed the yellow flags wrapped around the Junior High Building and the Early Learning Center. Work began to replace the roofs on these two buildings. There was also a leak at the base of the bell tower in the church which has been repaired.
Joanie and I were walking through Forest Lodge, and we ran into some workers who looked as though they were doing something different than the landscaping work that typically was taking place. They told us that they were replacing all outdoor lights in the park! I thought that was a bright idea.
God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
