Father's Bulletin Letter 6.20.2025
Jul 17, 2025
Greetings,
This past weekend our phones were down for some unknown reason. Then they magically came back on, but we couldn’t check messages. They seem to be operating normally now so if you were trying to get in touch with the parish and couldn’t get through or wondering why you did not receive a response, that may be why, and I suggest that you try again. Also, I was away all week at a conference and unavailable. By the time you read this I’ll be back at it.
IN OTHER NEWS:
THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS: Tomorrow, July 21 is Theology on the Rocks and this week’s speaker is the awesome Fr. Pfeiffer, former parochial vicar here and pastor of St. Paul. “Lights! Cameras! Action!: The Intersection of Movies and Faith.” Doors at Our Lady of the Cedars open at 7pm and the talk begins at 7:30pm. The cost is $15 with appetizers and a cash bar.
Theology on the Rocks began when we had Theology on Tap (which is for young adults), and some parishioners asked why we didn’t have something for those who no longer consider themselves young adults. Thus, Theology on the Rocks was inspired. It has since spawned another one in the diocese called Theology on the Rocks West. The purpose is to provide a night out for adults who are not into the bar scene necessarily, but who would like to get together with likeminded others for an evening of fellowship, refreshments both edible and spiritual.
WORK AROUND ST. SEBASTIAN SQUARE: This past week, workers installed the new carpeting in the main hallway of the school. As you may recall, we have had difficulty with the flooring in this part of the building due to the nature of the construction of our school. After just a year, the pervious flooring appeared old and worn as if it too were almost a century old. The new carpet squares pay homage to the original tile floor pattern and really ties the whole hallway together. There will be an open house before school begins and I hope that you get to see it!
Work on the stonework of the church continues. You may have noticed last week that crumbling portions were chiseled out in order to make way for the repairs. These areas were mostly where salt was being applied to help fight icy conditions in the winter. These projects should be completed soon.
Forest Lodge was looking a little sketchy for a spell. The garden areas were looking shaggy with high weeds. Last week, the city came in and rid the beds of weeds and put down mulch. Our thanks to the city!
You may have also noticed eight yards of mulch were recently laid on our playground thanks to our maintenance crew and seminarians.
PARISH FESTIVAL: It’s right around the corner. Tickets on sale now for the Pig Roast and Lady’s Night Out. Mark your calendar for the family and friends’ event on Saturday, August 2 beginning with a procession from the church with the St. Sebastian Statue following the 4:30pm Mass.
God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
