Father's Bulletin Letter 6.15.2025
Jun 13, 2025
Greetings,
Easter may be over, but we immediately have two important things to celebrate following Pentecost. This weekend is Trinity Sunday, a day on which we celebrate the most fundamental belief of the Christian: That God, Who is one and perfect unity, is also perfect community as Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Next weekend is Corpus Christi weekend! This is the day that we celebrate another major tenet of our faith. Namely, that Jesus instituted the Eucharist and that what we celebrate at each Mass is the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
To help us celebrate, there will be a Eucharistic procession following the 9am Sunday Mass. Even if you attend another Mass that weekend, please consider coming back about 9:50am to join in the procession. We will process the Blessed Sacrament around St. Sebastian Square both to celebrate His presence among us and to ask for His gracious benediction on our parish and ministry and our neighborhood. Thank you to the School Advisory Council (SAC) for volunteering to serve donuts following the procession.
IN OTHER NEWS:
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!: To all of our dads and those who love and mentor as father figures, many blessings on you this day! Psychologists and mystics both tell us that the better relationship that we have with our fathers, the easier it is to develop a relationship with our Heavenly Father. So never underestimate the power of your position as dad. Thank you for all that you do and may God inspire you in your vocation.
THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS: I will be speaking at TOR this Monday night, June 16 at Our Lady of the Cedars. Doors open at 7pm and the talk begins at 7:30pm. I will be talking about what many see as the threat of Artificial Intelligence versus Human Beings. There are heavy appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets sold at the door are $15.
BRICK STREET JAZZ AND WINE FESTIVAL: Our Annual BSJ&W Festival is coming up on Thursday, June 26. Tickets are on sale now. You may purchase them online or by cash or check following the 9am and 11am Masses this Sunday.
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS: If you did not get a chance to donate to Fr. Gins who spoke last weekend and you would like to support the ministry of the Servite Order, you may turn in a well-marked envelope in the collection this week or next or bring it to Cathy Sivec in the office during office hours.
Also, if you missed the Catholic Charities Appeal, you may still donate online (by searching diocese of Cleveland Catholic Charities) or pick up an envelope in the church and drop it in the collection or bring it to the office.
WORK AROUND ST. SEBASTIAN SQUARE: A lot of work around the parish over the summer is easy to see as bushes are trimmed, trees and flowers are planted, things are painted and so forth, but most of our work this year is somewhat hidden. All the windows of the school have been quietly refurbished to bring them back into full and easy use. Wiring is being strung throughout our buildings in order to upgrade our older fire and burglar alarm systems. We are preparing for the roofs of the Junior High and Early Learning Center to be replaced.
Then, on Saturday, our main flagpole in front of the school was newly painted and had the ropes replaced. A gentleman called me about a month ago and said that he would refurbish our nearly 100-year-old pole for $300. (If you haven’t been close to it, the base is really quite nice and if we had to get a new one, it would probably be dull and plain.) Then, on Saturday, it magically turned sparkling silver and the new ropes, you may have noticed, are tied out and away from the pole so that it would have plenty of time to dry. The flags were able to be returned to the pole on Wednesday.
God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
