Father's Bulletin Letter 5.11.2025

May 09, 2025

Greetings,

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! May Mary, the Mother of God, bless you in your vocation as a mother and help you to know the magnitude of your willingness to give of yourself in this way.

IN OTHER NEWS:

FLOWERS: Flowers will be on sale (until they run out) at the exits of the church today for Mother’s Day. Proceeds will go toward helping Women find alternatives to abortion.

AWAY: I am away from the parish through Monday. I left right after Mass last Sunday to head to Chicago for further studies in order for this parish to become a place where transitional deacons can be placed as part of their training from our seminary. I’ll be returning Monday night, but will have to zip up to the seminary for a meeting of the Admissions Board to interview candidates for entrance next year. In the meantime, the parish is in the very capable hands of Fr. Marcelli.

If you were trying to get ahold of me, please try again starting Tuesday.

ORDINATION WEEKEND: Ordination weekend is next weekend. You are invited to our Cathedral of St. John at 10am on Saturday, May 17 or you may watch it live-streamed on the diocesan website.

CONFESSIONS ON MAY 17: Fr. Dismas and Fr. Bahati will be here for confessions on Saturday, May 17 from 9:30am—10am, while Fr. Marcelli and I are at the Cathedral for Priesthood Ordination.

CONCERT: On May 18, there will be a concert here at the parish. Our own parish choir under the direction of Mr. David Uschold and accompanied by a brass quintet & timpani who will amaze us with their musical prowess! The concert is free and open to the public although there will be a free will offering taken up to support the music programming here at St. Sebastian Parish.

LAMP POSTS: During a meeting with our councilperson, I was able to ask about our lamp posts and why the Mull Avenue project seems to have stalled out. According to her, the company that made the lamp posts went out of business and so there is an attempt to find another company to make them. This is important since not all the lamp posts have been installed! We are waiting on three more. In the meantime, what we have is a little messy with missing posts, double posts and one more that has been
laying on its side with a ton of cement attached to it (or I would have moved it myself) in the middle of the Triangle.

If you haven’t had a chance, take a look at the front of Zwisler Hall. All of the repairs have been made, the facade cleaned and now it looks like brand new!

God bless,
Fr. Valencheck
