Father's Bulletin Letter 10.8.23

Oct 05, 2023

Greetings,

The Julie Billiart School (JB) is a Catholic school located just blocks from St. Sebastian Parish that serves children with moderate autism, anxiety, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning differences. Students find success there because JB celebrates their potential, nurtures their curiosity and customizes teaching to each student’s unique learning style. Both Fr. Bozek and I celebrate Mass there on a regular basis and can testify to the wonderful things that are accomplished there. JB largely relies on word of mouth to let the community know who they are and what they can do for students who would benefit from their services. If your family or someone you know could use the services of the JB Akron, please pass on this information about this wonderful school.

IN OTHER NEWS:

CONSTRUCTION NEWS: Last week I received news that vertical construction will begin at the Perkins site in approximately three weeks. Twelve homes have already been sold and they expect the lots to go more quickly once construction begins.

CHURCH PARKING LOT TO BE SEALED: Attention daily Mass goers and school families, our church parking lot will be closed October 12 and 13 for sealing and striping. If the weather doesn’t permit, it will be moved to another day.

ADORERS NEEDED: You are needed to be present for Tuesday adoration. We could really use a few more people around lunch time and dinner time. Please consider helping us keep this tradition strong by filling the gaps.

ST. JUDE COMING TO ST. SEBASTIAN: As was announced in last week’s Angelus Letter, a relic of St. Jude is coming to St. Sebastian for one day of veneration on Thursday, November 2. This relic is leaving Rome for the first time this year and is making 100 stops in the United States, St. Sebastian being the only one located in northern Ohio. We are told to expect very large crowds. Mark your calendars and more information will be coming out to you about how you might take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity. We will also need many volunteers for those who would be interested in assisting with this day. Watch for more details.

THEOLOGY ON THE ROCKS: The next Theology on the Rocks will be October 16. This month’s speaker will be our very good friend Fr. Matthew Pfeiffer talking about TBA, which is, of course, always an interesting topic! Hope to see you there.

EXTRAORDINARY FORM SURVEY: If you were present last weekend for the EF Mass and received a survey, this Sunday is the last day to turn them in. This will help prepare us for the changes that are coming on November 1.

MUSICAL NOTES: Lynn Frey, our director of music, will be retiring next year. This, of course, has me very nervous! A handful of viable musicians have applied and auditions and interviews will be taking place in short order. Please keep this process in your prayers. Replacing Lynn is going to be very difficult!

God bless,

Fr. Valencheck
