Flight 93 Memorial Cont'd

Sep 11, 2019

St. Sebastian Parish School was the only school to attend on 9-11. This is an experience of a lifetime that our students have to look forward to when they are in 8th grade. This was St. Sebastian Parish School's 3rd year visiting the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA. The focus of the Flight 93 National Memorial is to represent the 'Sacred Ground,' and the final resting place of Flight 93's passengers and crew. The plaza within the Sacred Ground also allows students to closely view the crash site and pay their respects to the fallen heroes.

8th Graders arrived in time to hear from David Bernhardt, Secretary of the Interior, and Mike Pence, Vice President. After the service, Mr. Gordon Felt, President of Families of Flight 93, spoke with our students about his brother, Edward, who was on Flight 93 and the sacrifice that the ordinary men and women on that flight made that day in 2001. These men and women put aside their differences for the greater good of many as heroes, even voting before putting their plan of action in motion. The students heard from Gordon near the impact site and the Wall of Names. The students later toured the Flight 93 Memorial Museum and then stopped at the Tower of Voices. At this tower, Deacon Terry led our group in prayer at the base of the tower as we remembered and prayed for these 40 heroes.
