R.C.I.A., the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, is a faith journey for adults who were not raised Catholic and want to know more about the Catholic faith. The process provides the opportunity for you to ask questions, become acquainted with the practices and traditions of the Catholic Church and often leads to being initiated into the Catholic Church at Easter. There is no pressure to make a commitment. The decision of the individual is always respected.

The process begins in September and continues until spring. Though the commitment seems long, it is an opportunity to pray, learn, share and grow in faith. Many have walked the journey and found the experience to be one of growth and enlightenment. Your witness, and willingness to know more about the Catholic faith, is a source of enrichment to our entire parish community.

The R.C.I.A. team is made up of many people. Some answer questions for inquirers, some are catechists that break open the word on Sunday mornings, some are sponsors, some provide hospitality, and some babysit. If you have been feeling that you would like to be more involved in the St. Sebastian community, think about becoming a sponsor for an R.C.I.A. candidate. This would be a good way to deepen your faith while helping another to do the same.

We are having an evening of formation for catechists and sponsors on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 7:00pm in conjunction with St. Hilary's R.C.I.A. team. If you, or someone you know would like to know more about R.C.I.A., please contact Elaine Fechko at the rectory (330) 836-2233 x.103. If you would like to join the team, call Elaine Fechko.
