This Week's "From the Administrator"
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
One of the most wonderful things that I have encountered in my short time at St. Sebastian is the true sense of stewardship that you have for your parish. The level of volunteerism at St. Sebastian is incredible. The number of people who are quietly making sure tasks are accomplished, and done well, is truly impressive. This is something we can all be very proud of!
None of the various tasks are light undertakings. They require your time and effort. That is part of stewardship: knowing that you have a stake in this church and that it takes all of us together, to keep on top of our game and continuing our mission. There are churches and parishes that do not understand this and it becomes readily apparent. Church is something that they do, not who they are. Their church buildings are seen as public spaces to be utilized, rather than their spiritual home.
When we are at our best, we realize that we do not attend Catholic Churches, we are the Catholic Church and that our parish facility is our family meeting space. In this, every parishioner comes to realize that they have a certain stake in, and responsibility for, that hymnal, that ministry, that other member of the parish family.
At the other end of stewardship you may have noticed (and will continue to notice) a lot of work going on around the parish grounds that cannot be done by volunteers. Begun under the leadership of Fr. Karg, many repairs and improvements are being made to our property so that it might continue to be a viable and worthy place to be called your spiritual home. The amount of property and floor space here is staggering and we cannot let any of it get ahead of us. It is a large and heavy responsibility, but well worth the effort. It is unlikely that Catholics of the future will have the quality, beauty, and integrity of property that you and I enjoy here at St. Sebastian.
So once again, thank you to all who take stewardship seriously. We are who we are today, because of the stewardship of those who came before us. And you are providing a gift for those who will be sitting in these pews from future generations.
